Ι Enduring Mandates in a New Economic Era at the Bretton Woods Committee's Spring Summit 2025

ML241011002.JPG

With Washington, DC’s iconic cherry blossoms falling from the trees, the city is awaiting the imminent arrival of delegates from 191 countries for the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings. At a pivotal time in the global economy, the convening powers of the Bank and Fund are both important and unparalleled. Finance officials from around the globe will meet to discuss how to engage with an international financial system that has undergone dramatic change; a change that will make the core mandates of the IMF and World Bank as important as they’ve ever been.

This paradigm shift also presents an opportunity for the institutions. As ongoing financial and technological developments continue to shape a new global economic era, the need for multilateral dialogue among various international stakeholders is as great as ever. During next week’s meetings, the Bretton Woods Committee will gather our global membership, policymakers, and leaders in innovation to host insightful conversations. These conversations will highlight the IFI’s pivotal role in unlocking new markets, safeguarding financial stability, and harnessing the power of innovation.

We are honored to host conversations with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank President Ajay Banga on how their institutions can best leverage their core competencies. An exciting panel on how to harness the massive transformation of digital financial infrastructure for global innovation and growth will feature Klaas Knott, Hester Peirce, and Dante Disparte. U.S. House Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill concludes our program offering insights into the global economic priorities of the IMF’s and World Bank’s largest stakeholder—the United States.

These conversations are more than timely; they're a valuable opportunity to reflect on how global cooperation can evolve in this rapidly changing world.

We’re excited to welcome those of you joining us in Washington next week! Don’t forget to tag us in your posts throughout the event. If you can’t attend in person, stay connected by following us on Twitter and LinkedIn for real-time updates, and visit brettonwoods.org later in the week to watch the full conference recording.
